Capture Sources
Caption starts with source selection. If the wrong source combination is chosen, every downstream step becomes weaker.
Available source types
- Microphone: best when your own voice or room audio matters.
- System audio: best when the operating system output must be captured, such as remote calls or playback.
- App output: best when one specific app should be isolated from the rest of the system.
- Camera or video layer: best when the visual record matters alongside the audio.
Recommended combinations
Meeting or remote call
- Microphone
- System audio
Product demo
- Microphone
- App output
- Optional camera or screen/video layer
Playback review or media QA
- System audio only, or app output only
Common failure mode
The most expensive mistake is finding out after the session that one source never entered the workflow.
Avoid this by validating the source combination before you optimize anything else.
Validation checklist
- Can you see the source you expect before starting?
- Do the live captions react when the source plays?
- If there is video, is it tied to the same session and not stored separately by accident?
