Record a Microphone and Save the Audio

Select the microphone, record, stop and save, then reopen the audio file. A finished recording has a clear filename and location and contains the sound you intended.

In a browser

Use a microphone recorder such as Online Voice Recorder. Allow microphone access when prompted and select the intended input in browser or device settings. Record → Stop → listen → Save/download the MP3. Keep the downloaded file in a folder you can find again.

In QuickTime Player on Mac

Choose File → New Audio Recording, open the input options and select the microphone and quality. Record, stop, then use File → Save to name the file and choose a location. QuickTime’s audio-recording path records microphone input; select a system-audio recording tool when your source is computer playback.

Check sound and save location

Reopen the saved file and listen to its beginning and end. For silence, check microphone permission, the selected device and its input level. For clipping, reduce input gain and make a short new recording. Keep the original file while you make an edited copy. MP3 is the browser tool’s stated output; QuickTime uses its own selected audio quality and format.
